Please tell us your name, where you are based and a little bit about yourself?

My name is Lisa Kleinsmiede and I’ve been living in Welland just outside Malvern since 2019. I’ve
recently retired from my long term Digital Marketing job and work a few hours in the village shop. I
love cars, rock music and have just started gardening as well as painting. I live with my husband and
2 cats and we have 4 grown up children between us.

What kind of craft or art to you do and when did you start?

I paint in watercolour, occasionally using pen and wash. I started 2 years ago when I basically woke
up in January 2023 with the idea in my head that I might be able to paint, something I’ve not done
since O level art at school (that shows you how old I am!).

Do you have any formal training?

Absolutely not, I’m winging it….

Tell us a bit about your creative process, and the materials you use?

I paint whatever I’m in the mood for. My style varies wildly from picture to picture so there is really no consistency to my paintings, they are just how I feel on the day. I use Winsor and Newton paints and occasionally Schminke. I also take on commissions and have completed car portraits, buildings and Comic Book characters for customers.

How would you describe your work and what inspires you?

I would say that I enjoy detail. I want my painting to look like what I’m seeing. I don’t really do ‘loose’ watercolour painting, although I would love to be able to learn that in time. I’m inspired by shapes and colours, shade and light and cats 😀 I love painting Japanese inspired imagery too.

Do you have a favourite location, design, technique?

I paint in my study, it’s quiet and bright and I can see the hills.

Where can people find you and your work?

I have a gallery wall at the Malt House Emporium in Tewkesbury (upstairs) and you can purchase from my website:
